The Group (UN/EDIFACT)

For UN/EDIFACT, the group is an optional structure.  It is useful for subdividing messages in the document so that they can be routed automatically to the recipients internal department that handles the particular group of messages.

If present, the functional group encapsulates a collection of related messages and/or packages.  It must be bound by a functional group header data segment (UNG) and a functional group trailer data segment (UNE).  Finally, there must at least be one message or package in the group.
