Version String Parameter

The Version String parameter is the parameter that is passed to methods or member functions to specify the version of the controlling agency (ASC/X12 or UN/EDIFACT).  The format of the version string should be as follows:

 <Version><Release><Industry>

Where:

• Version is the major release number.

• Release is the minor release number.

• Industry is the related industry

Notes

• UN/EDIFACT – When the version string is specified as a single string, then the string is understood to be formatted in the following way: VRRRN..N - where “V” is the version, “RRR” is the release and N..N is the industry information.  For example, the string “S93A” is interpreted as "S" being the version and "93A" as the release.  The version, release and industry can also be separated by a single space to distinctly separate each unit of information as in the example “S 93A” (version and release specified only).
• ASC/X12 – When the version string is specified as a single string, then the string is understood to be formatted in the following way: VVVRRRN..N - where “VVV” is the version, “RRR” is the release and N..N is the industry.  For example “004020X091”, is interpreted the following way: "004" is the version, "020" is the release and "X091" is the industry.  The version, release and industry can also be separated by a single space character to distinctly separate each information as in the example “004 020 X091”.

Examples

"004020" - 004 is the version; 020 is the release.
"004 020" - 004 is the version; 020 is the release.
"004020X091" - 004 is the version; 020 is the release; X091 is the industry.
"004 020 X091" - 004 is the version; 020 is the release; X091 is the industry.
"S93A" - S is the version; 93A is the release.
"S 93A" - S is the version; 93A is the release.
