.CODES Section

The .CODES section lists data elements that apply code values.  Code values are a list of values that are allowed only to a particular data element, as defined by the published EDI standard.

For example, in ASC/X12 the data element 1524 has the following defined:

1524=A,C,R

where the data element ID is "1524" and the data element is allowed the values "A", "C", and "R" only.
