A private key is required to decrypt a file. Because the
digital certificate does not hold the private key, it must therefore be
associate to a key container. The private key in the key container is
then used to decrypt the file. To decrypt an encrypted file, take the
following steps:
Select and highlight the certificate that will be used to
decrypt.
Right click, and scroll to Decrypt File on the
popup menu.
The following dialog box is displayed:
Fill in the information for the following entries in the dialog
box:
Encrypted File. Enter the full file path of the
file to decrypt. Click (..) to browse for the file.
Format. Enter the encryption format of the
encrypted file. The following options are available:
Encrypted Key. The encrypted file has a format that
is created as follows:
A session key is generated and then encrypted using the
certificate's public key.
The encrypted key is pre-pended to the encrypted file.
EnvelopedData. This format is based on the PKCS#7
EnvelopedData format.
Decrypt File. Enter the full file path of the
resulting decrypted file. Click (..) to browse for the selected path and
target file name.
