Determine Key Container Association

Digital certificates normally hold only the public key and not the private key of a public/private key pair.  Because the private key is required for signing and decrypting, sometimes the certificate is associated instead to a key container whereby the private key in the key container is then used to sign and decrypt.  In order for the association to be successful, the public key in the key container must be equivalent to the public key in the certificate.  Framework EDI can automatically determine the certificate's association to a key container by comparing the public key of the certificate to the public key of the key container.  This operation could sometimes take a while.  To determine a certificates association to a key container, take the following steps:

  1. Select and highlight the certificate to associate to a key container.

  2. Right click, and select Determine Associated Key Containerfrom the popup menu.
