Key Containers

Adding a Key Container

Cryptographic Service Providers (CSP) contains a database of key containers, each identified by a unique name.  The name is not case sensitive, that is, a name "ABC COMPANY" is equivalent to "abc company".  A new key container will consist of two public/private key pairs:

  1. A Key Exchange pair.
  2. A Digital Signature pair.

To add a key container:

  1. Highlight the CSP where the key container is to be added, and then right click to display a popup menu.
  2. In the popup menu, select the item Add Key Container.

  3. The following dialog box is displayed:

At the dialog prompt Key Container Name, enter the name of the key container.

  4. Press OK to accept the entry and add the key container.

NOTE:  The new key container is added in the security context of the logged on user that created it, and is therefore only accessible by the creator, the Administrator and local system account.
