Technical Notes

1. The AK9 data segment is created automatically when the functional acknowledgment or the implementation acknowledgment is generated.  The functional acknowledgment uses the Functional Acknowledgment (997) transaction set; the implementation guideline uses the Implementation Guideline (999) transaction set.  This data segment primarily
   • reports any errors found in the functional group level (in Functional Group Syntax Error Code (716) data element), 
   • indicates the action taken by the receiver (in Functional Group Acknowledge Code (715) data element), and
   • summarizes the transaction sets received in the functional group.

To acknowledge acceptance or rejection of a functional group and report the number of included transaction sets from the original trailer, the accepted sets, and the received sets in this functional group.
