Semantic Rules

Semantic rules are conditions that are attached to a semantic object that, if the conditions are satisfied, can change the state of the semantic object, or execute an external program.

An example of a simple semantic rule is found in version X12-4010 transaction set 850.

1/800  If segment LIN is used, do not use LIN01.

In this example, the condition "If segment LIN is used" affects the requirement of data element LIN01.
